What to know about the Smartly
The bonus tier depends on a 30-day average balance in open consumer Bank Smartly Checking and Safe Debit accounts: $10,000 to $49,999.99 gives 2.5 points per $1, $50,000 to $99,999.99 gives 3, and $100,000 or more gives 4 2. Deposits in other U.S. Bank accounts do not count, and a Smartly Savings account is required as well 2. After $10,000 in eligible purchases in a billing cycle, the rate returns to 2 points per $1 2. Purchases classified as education, gift cards, insurance, tax, business-to-business transactions or third-party bill payments earn the 2-point base and may not earn the bonus, and they do not count toward the $10,000 2.
The cash back percentages apply when points are redeemed as a deposit into an eligible U.S. Bank deposit account or as a statement credit; gift cards and travel may be redeemed at a reduced rate 2. Points expire after 12 consecutive statement cycles with no reward, purchase or balance activity 2. The card has a 3% foreign transaction fee 2.
U.S. Bank publishes no card-specific Guide to Benefits for the Smartly card; the Benefits Center links the general Visa Signature guide 34. The protections listed there are Travel and Emergency Assistance, which arranges referrals but leaves the costs to the cardholder, pay-per-use Roadside Dispatch, and zero fraud liability 345. Neither the product page nor the Benefits Center lists rental car, purchase, extended warranty or cell phone protection for this card 13.
