How the credit is triggered
Chase gives one statement credit every four years, up to $120, after the first Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS application fee is charged to a Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve by the cardmember or an authorized user 16. For the Sapphire Preferred, Chase says the fee must be paid directly to DHS, an eligible partner or an authorized TSA PreCheck enrollment provider 1.
Capital One applies the credit to the first Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee charged to a Venture or Venture X card, matches the fee paid up to $120, allows one credit per account every 4 years and excludes fees paid through PayPal 278. Capital One also accepts TSA PreCheck fees only when paid directly to an official TSA PreCheck enrollment provider 2. Citi's terms for the Strata Elite credit the first program fee charged to the card, regardless of whether the application is approved 9. Bank of America applies its credits in the order the qualifying transactions post, up to the card's total, and states that it has no control over the government programs' applications, approval or fees 4.
Amounts and eligible programs
Seven cards list up to $120: the Amex Platinum, Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite, Capital One Venture and Venture X, Chase Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve, and Citi Strata Elite 3578169. The Bank of America Premium Rewards and the U.S. Bank Altitude Connect list up to $100 410.
American Express sets two amounts for the Platinum Card: $120 for the Global Entry application fee or up to $85 for the TSA PreCheck fee when applying through a TSA official enrollment provider, once every 4 years, credited for whichever program is charged to the card first 3. Its terms state that NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST and Privium are not eligible 3.
How the four-year period is counted
Bank of America grants its credit per account every four years for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry fees paid with the Premium Rewards or Premium Rewards Elite card 45. Citi also limits it to one credit per account every four years 9. U.S. Bank grants up to $100 per eligible Visa Signature account number every four years, with the period based on the date of the first qualifying transaction 10. American Express makes Basic Card Members eligible for the Platinum credit 3.
Annual fees vary widely: the Altitude Connect has no annual fee, the Venture and Premium Rewards charge $95, and the Venture X charges $395 11748.
