What to know about the Shield
Cell phone protection pays up to $600 per claim, one claim per 12 months, after a $100 deductible, and it applies only while the monthly wireless bill is paid with the card: coverage starts the first day of the month after a payment and is suspended for any month the bill is not paid with the card 4. It is supplemental to other insurance, does not cover lost or mysteriously disappeared phones, and theft requires a police report within 48 hours 4.
The auto rental collision damage waiver requires using the card for the entire rental and declining the rental company's CDW 4. It is primary only when renting outside the cardholder's country of residence; in the country of residence, a cardholder with personal auto or other insurance is reimbursed for the deductible and unreimbursed rental company charges, and it covers rentals of up to 15 consecutive days in the country of residence and 31 days abroad 4. Purchase security covers theft and certain damage for 90 days after purchase, up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per cardholder, and pays only after other insurance 4.
Extended warranty doubles an eligible U.S. manufacturer's warranty of three years or less by up to one additional year, with up to $10,000 per claim 4. The guide asks cardholders to notify the Benefit Administrator within 60 days of the product failure and to submit the claim form within 90 days of the failure, while the Benefits Center tile states a 90-day limit counted from the purchase date, so cardholders may want to confirm the deadline with the Benefit Administrator 43. The $20 statement credit posts within 2 billing cycles of 11 consecutive calendar months of purchases while the account is in good standing 2. The card has a 3% foreign transaction fee, and Roadside Dispatch is pay-per-use 25.
