About CardBenefitsFinder
CardBenefitsFinder explains what US credit cards actually include: the fees, how rewards are earned, and the insurance and protection benefits that come with each card, in the issuer’s own terms.
Card benefits are spread across marketing pages, rates and fees tables and long Guide to Benefits documents, and they change without much notice. We read those documents for every personal card that 8 major issuers offer under their own brand (American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, Discover, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo), 45 cards in all, and set the terms out the same way for each card, so they can be compared.
CardBenefitsFinder is an independent publication. We are not a bank, a card network or an insurer, and no issuer pays for a place on the site or reviews our pages before they are published.
What we cover, and what we do not
- Covered: the issuers’ own-brand personal cards that are open to new applicants, including student, secured and credit-building cards.
- Not covered: co-branded airline, hotel and store cards, whose main benefits belong to a partner’s program; business cards; and cards closed to new applicants. Each issuer page lists the cards we leave out.
- Not published: welcome offers and interest rates. Both change often and depend on the applicant, so the issuer’s own application page is the only reliable place to read them.
How we research
Every figure comes from an official issuer source: the card’s product page, its rates and fees table or pricing terms, the card’s Guide to Benefits or benefit terms, or the rewards program rules. Review sites and forums can tell us where to look, but they are never the source of a figure.
- Sources on every page. Each fee, earning rate and benefit limit links to a numbered source with the date we checked it.
- Checked twice. After a card is researched, a second check compares every recorded figure with the issuer’s text before the page is published.
- “Not listed” is not “no”. When an issuer does not list a benefit for a card, we say so instead of claiming the card lacks it. Some benefits come with the card network and are not always advertised.
- Exact terms. Limits, deductibles, waiting periods and conditions are given as the issuer states them, without rounding.
- Regular re-checks. Card pages are reviewed at least every 60 days, and sooner when an issuer announces a change.
Our summaries are a starting point. Insurance benefits in particular depend on the full terms, exclusions and claim rules in your own Guide to Benefits, which takes precedence over anything here. Call the number on the back of your card before you rely on a benefit.
Editorial team
Pages are researched and written by our editorial team from the issuers’ documents. We do not give personal financial advice and do not recommend a card for any individual reader.
Corrections
If you find a fee or benefit that has changed, use the “Report an error” link at the end of any page or contact us. We check every report against the issuer’s source, correct the page when needed and update its review date.
