What to know about Discover cards

The lineup is built around cash back. Discover it Cash Back and its secured and student versions earn bonus cash back on rotating categories that must be activated each quarter. The two Chrome cards pay a fixed bonus at gas stations and restaurants, and Discover it Miles earns a flat rate in miles 1. The secured card is the credit-building option and asks for a refundable deposit 1.

The rotating categories belong to what Discover calls the Cashback Bonus program. The application terms say only that the 5% rate applies up to a quarterly maximum, and they point to Discover's 5% calendar for current details 8. The calendar and the discover.com home page give that maximum as $1,500 in purchases per quarter. The calendar also says its content may not apply to some cards managed through Capital One 65. Every card has a first-year match for new cardmembers: all cash back, or all miles on Discover it Miles, earned in the first 365 days is matched and added within two billing periods. The terms say the offer may not be available in the future 89.

After the merger, applications go through capitalone.com, and new accounts are managed in the Capital One site and app 7. Balances cannot be transferred between Discover and Capital One credit cards 4. Current terms add 5% cash back, or 5 miles per dollar on Discover it Miles, for hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars on Capital One Travel and for Capital One Entertainment tickets 8. Capital One says it charges no foreign transaction fees 14.

No Guide to Benefits for Discover it cards was found. The only Discover Network guides in Capital One's benefits-guide index cover Capital One's own Venture, VentureOne, Savor, SavorOne, Quicksilver and QuicksilverOne cards 1011. For Discover-network cards, Capital One's help center lists the benefit administrator at eclaimsline.com and 800-825-4062, or collect at 804-965-8071 from outside the U.S. It also notes that not all cards are eligible for cardholder benefits, so coverage for Discover it cards is not confirmed 15.

Cards not covered here

This site covers Discover’s own-brand personal cards. These cards in Discover’s catalog are outside that scope, mostly because their benefits belong to an airline, hotel or retail partner’s program:

  • NHL Discover it Credit Card (Co-branded/affinity version (NHL team designs, "Cards for all 32 teams") of Discover it Cash Back. Its application terms (offer 41605) match Discover it Cash Back (offer 41603) apart from a form code. Excluded as co-branded; snapshots saved as discover-nhl-product / discover-nhl-terms in case it should be added.)
  • Discover business credit cards (None listed on discover.com/credit-cards/ as of 2026-10-10; business cards are out of scope anyway.)
