What to know about the Secured Visa
The deposit is held in a U.S. Bank secured savings account 2. U.S. Bank reports the card to the three major credit bureaus and periodically reviews the cardholder's overall credit history, including other cards and loans; after such a review it may release the deposit, and the account then stops being a secured card 12. The product page says the deposit is returned if the account is upgraded or closed, while the terms add that on closing the deposit is first used to pay the balance in full and may be held for the later of 60 days or two billing cycles 12. U.S. Bank does not give a timeline for the review or name a specific card the account moves to 1.
The free credit score, alerts and credit score forecast come through U.S. Bank Protect 360 and are available only to U.S. Bank online and mobile banking customers; the score is for educational purposes and is not the one U.S. Bank uses for credit decisions 1. Payment due dates can be chosen by calling the number on the back of the card, though not every date may be available 1.
The card has a 3% foreign transaction fee 2. Its Benefits Center page links no Guide to Benefits apart from the Roadside Dispatch guide, and Roadside Dispatch is pay-per-use: the cardholder pays a set fee for each service call 34. Unauthorized transactions carry zero fraud liability as long as the cardholder notifies U.S. Bank promptly 1.
Travel insurance and assistance
| Roadside assistance | Roadside Dispatch: pay-per-use roadside dispatch (standard towing up to 5 miles, tire changing, jump starting, lockout service, fuel delivery up to 5 gallons plus the cost of fuel, standard winching). Service costs are not covered by the card; the cardholder pays a set fee per service call ($79.95 for a standard service call per the Roadside Dispatch guide, subject to change).34 |
