What to know about the Discover it Miles
The card has one flat rate for everyday spending, so it needs no activation and has no categories to track. Cash advances, balance transfers and checks drawn on the account earn nothing 2. The 5 miles per dollar rate covers only hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked on Capital One Travel. Incidentals and upgrades paid separately earn 1.5 miles 2.
There are two ways to use miles for travel, according to the terms. You can cover a past travel purchase from an airline, hotel, rail line, car rental agency, cruise line, taxi or similar merchant with an account credit, within 90 days of the purchase posting. Or you can book new travel on Capital One Travel, where the miles needed equal the cost multiplied by 100 2. Miles can also go to cash, gift cards and other options. The terms say rates for those options vary and can change, so check the rate before redeeming 2.
Discover Match adds the first year's miles to the rewards account within two billing periods. It does not cover statement credits, rewards transfers or closed accounts 2. Miles do not expire while the account is open, and the first late payment has no fee (up to $41 after that) 2. Capital One says it charges no foreign transaction fees 4. No issuer document found lists travel insurance, rental car coverage or lounge access for this card, so none is listed. That is not proof the card lacks them.
